ISLAMABAD : The government is set to recover additional Rs12 billion from consumers of power distribution companies (DISCOs) and K-Electric through a positive Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) of Rs1.64 per unit for February 2026.
According to data submitted to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), hydel generation in February stood at 1,782 GWh, accounting for 23.16 percent of total electricity generation.
Power generation from local coal was recorded at 1,231 GWh (15.99 percent) at a cost of Rs12.22 per unit, while imported coal-based plants generated 1,150 GWh (14.95 percent) at Rs13.56 per unit. No electricity was generated from high-speed diesel (HSD) and furnace oil (RFO) during the month.
Generation from gas-based plants was 887 GWh (11.52 percent) at Rs13.5853 per unit. RLNG-based generation stood at 729 GWh (9.47 percent) with a cost of Rs20.1613 per unit.
Nuclear power contributed 1,449 GWh, making up 18.83 percent of total generation, at a notably low cost of Rs2.5042 per unit.
Electricity imports from Iran amounted to 35 GWh at Rs23.2107 per unit. Among renewable sources, wind generation was 251 GWh (3.26 percent), bagasse contributed 31 GWh at Rs10.3852 per unit, and solar generation stood at 92 GWh at Rs8.1543 per unit.
The total electricity generated in February 2026 was 7,696 GWh at an average cost of Rs8.1543 per unit. The Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has also sought a previous adjustment of Rs694 million. Sales to IPPs were recorded as negative 24 GWh at Rs51.9007 per unit, while transmission losses stood at 244 GWh (-3.18 percent).
Net electricity delivered to DISCOs was 7,427 GWh at an average cost of Rs8.3743 per unit.
CPPA-G maintained that since the reference fuel cost for February was Rs6.7337 per unit against an actual cost of Rs8.3743 per unit, a positive adjustment of Rs1.6406 per unit is justified.
NEPRA is scheduled to hold a public hearing on March 31, 2026, to consider the request and hear stakeholders’ views.
