Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has suspended the decision of Provincial Ombudsman in case of CEO K-Electric (KE) has issued notice to Mehreen Zehra, a former senior level employee of K-Electric.
In the wake of a recent verdict against Moonis Alvi by Provincial Ombudsman, CEO K-Electric, the chief executive has publicly denied any wrongdoing, expressing deep disappointment on the decision, while affirming his intention to appeal.
The verdict, details of which have been mentioned in an order of the ombudsperson convicted Alvi for misconduct in a professional capacity.
Taking to social media to respond, Alvi posted a series of statements defending his integrity and professionalism. “I have always upheld the values of integrity and dignity in professional interactions, and I deeply believe in fostering safe and inclusive workplaces for all,” he said in the first tweet of a four-part thread.
Describing the verdict as “deeply distressing,” Alvi acknowledged his respect for the legal process but emphasised that the findings “do not reflect the truth of the situation as I experienced it.” He stated that the journey had been painful not just professionally but personally as well.
Alvi confirmed that he is currently reviewing the court’s decision with legal counsel and will be “exercising [his] right to appeal.” He also used the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to transparency and due process. “It is for anyone who feels wronged to be heard. I remain committed to ensuring that the truth is fully brought to light, through all lawful means available.”
According to the detailed order issued by Justice Shahnawaz Tariq, the Provincial Ombudsperson, Moonis Alvi, in his capacity as CEO of KE was found guilty of harassment at workplace. The Ombudsperson mentioned that his actions created a workplace environment that enabled psychological discomfort for the complainant, amounting to a violation of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010. The decision includes formal penalties and directions to ensure preventive measures.
