ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to prepare a comprehensive Pitch Book ahead of his upcoming visit to China, the dates of which are currently being finalized, Newzshewz has reliably learnt.
This will mark the Prime Minister’s first visit to Beijing following the recent brief conflict with India, during which Pakistan deployed the JF-17 Thunder fighter jets—a symbol of the strategic defense collaboration between Pakistan and China.
The IMC will comprise Federal Minister for Commerce( Co-Convener), Federal Minister for Board of Investment( Member), Haroon Akhtar Khan, SAPM on Industries & Production (Co-convener), Secretary, Board of Investment (Member), National Coordinator, SIFC (Member), Secretary, Commerce Division (Member), Secretary, Industries and Production Division, Secretary, National Food Security & Research (Member) Dr. Erfa Iqbal, Additional Secretary, (BoI) (Member) and Secretary, SIFC (Secretary) Terms of Reference: The Committee shall review progress on the decisions, agreements and MoUs signed during or in the backdrop of PM’s last visit to Shenzhen, China last year and subsequent road shows organized by BoI and Pakistan’s Embassy in China.
The Committee shall engage with Chinese entrepreneurs/business persons through Pakistani Embassy in China, Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and Board of Investment to identify their expectation/ requirements for facilitating investment in Pakistan through various projects and establishment of new industries/ relocation of industries from China. The Committee, in collaboration with concerned Ministries/ Provinces, shall come-up with recommendations to extend facilitation and removal of impediments to Chinese investment within the legal framework.
The Committee shall monitor progress on finalization of draft Pitch Book developed by Pakistan’s Embassy, China on the identified sectors (i.e. chemicals, petrochemicals; iron, steel , copper; EVs , auto parts; solar panel manufacturing , power storage; software development / ICT; food processing) and ensure that the information required by the Embassy is provided by the concerned Ministries before July 10, 2025.
The Committee, in consultation with entrepreneurs/business persons and the concerned Ministries, shall also explore/ identify other areas that can be included in the Pitch Book
The Committee shall also got prepare a short video to showcase facilities/ opportunities available in each of the sectors so identified and in SEZS/EPZs. Besides, a short video be also prepared to highlight success stories of Chinese investments in Pakistan.
The SIFC shall provide secretariat support to the Committee. The Prime Minister shall review the progress on preparation for China visit, every ten days.
The Co-Convener of the Committee, Jam Kamal, Commerce Minister held a detailed meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan and discussed expansion of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as currently trade balance is heavily in favour of Beijing.
