ISLAMABAD: The power generation has declined by 2 per cent in January 2025 to 8,153 Gwh from 8,314 GWh in January 2024 despite  the much -talked about Winter Support Package of Federal Government.

Statistics available with Newzshewz show that generation from hydel resources reduced by 6.27 per cent to 866 GWh in January 2025 as compared to 924 Gwh in the corresponding month of 2024.

Generation from local coal decreased by 7.6 per cent to 1,269 GWh in January from 1,373 GWh during the same month of 2024 . However, generation from imported coal has increased by 20.6 per cent to 695 Gwh in January as compared to 576 Gwh in January 2024. Generation from domestic gas increased by 3.3 per cent to 1,069 Gwh  in January  from 1,035 GWh in corresponding month of 2024.

According data submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency -Guaranteed (CPPA-G) , generation from RLNG increased by  2 per cent to 1,542 Gwh in January 2025 from 1,514 GWh in January  2024. Generation from nuclear posted growth of 26  per cent to 2,169  GWh in January 2025 from 1,728  GWh in January  2024.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed  has sought negative adjustment of paisa 2..0019 per unit in Discos’ tariffs for January  2025 to refund about Rs 8 billion to consumers under monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA).

Power generation from local coal-fired power plants was 15.56 per cent of total generation at a price of Rs 12.5415 per unit whereas 8.53 per cent of total generation was from imported coal at Rs 20.9619 per unit. Generation from HSD was zero while just 109 Gwh was generated on RFO at Rs 30.4357 per unit.

The share of electricity generation from gas-based power plants 13.11 percent at Rs 13.2114 per unit while share of generation from RLNG was 18.92 percent of total generation at Rs 22.4702 per unit.

Electricity generation from nuclear sources grew by 26.6 per cent at a price of Rs 1.8138 per unit and electricity imported from Iran was 34 GWh at 26.3461 per unit. Power generation from baggasse recorded at 95 GWh at a price calculated at Rs 5.9821 per unit.

CPPA-G is of the view that since the cost of net electricity delivered to Discos was Rs 11.0081 per unit against the reference FCA of 13.0100 per unit, a negative adjustment of Rs 2.0019 per unit be approved for the month of January 2025

However, generation has reduced by 21.7 per cent to 8,032 GWh in November 2024 from 10,262 GWh in October 2024. Price of electricity has reduced to Rs 7.2274 per unit in November from Rs 9.2593 per unit in October 2024.
