ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly reprimanded the concerned Ministries for providing inaccurate data on sugar, which could have led to misguided decisions.

The Prime Minister made these remarks at a recent federal cabinet meeting, where various issues were discussed and reviewed.

He noted with satisfaction that, due to timely decision-making and continuous monitoring by the government, it was possible to allow the export of 690,000 metric tons of sugar, bringing in much-needed foreign exchange without any increase in domestic sugar prices.

However, he expressed displeasure over the inaccurate data provided by the concerned Ministries, which could have resulted in wrong decisions. It was particularly concerning, he said, that the data provided by the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) was accurate, while the information from the Ministries was erroneous.

Prime Minister Sharif also briefed the Cabinet on the successful efforts to stop smuggling along the western border, with the support of the Pakistan Army. This collaboration has played a crucial role in stabilizing domestic prices.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of focusing on stability and sustained economic growth through strategies aimed at expanding exports, increasing remittances, boosting production, promoting industrial development, creating employment opportunities, and advancing technology. He stressed that these objectives could be achieved through coordinated efforts across government institutions and collaboration with the private sector.

Despite these efforts, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the shortfall in FBR revenue targets, despite the increase in overall revenue collection. He called for greater efforts and stricter enforcement, while also appreciating the recent work of the Chairman of FBR. The Prime Minister directed him to ensure that the revenue targets are met by deploying competent officers across the country.
