SLAMABAD: The Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has increased the fees for Board and Committee meetings by 100%, raising the rate from Rs 35,000 to Rs 70,000. This increase was approved by the PPIB Board, chaired by the Secretary of Power, at a time when the government is striving to reduce current expenditures by eliminating 60,000 vacant positions across various Ministries and merging some Ministries.

According to sources, MD PPIB Shah Jahan Mirza explained that the previous fee of Rs 35,000 had been set in 2017 and had not been revised since. In contrast, other power sector entities under the Government of Pakistan pay significantly higher fees to their Board members. A comparison of the current meeting fees for other power sector entities was presented to the Board, recommending a fee of Rs 100,000 per meeting for PPIB.

After deliberation, the Board determined that the increase from Rs 35,000 to Rs 100,000 was excessive. Based on feedback from Board members, it was decided to set the new fee at Rs 70,000 for Committee and Board meetings.

The MD also briefed the Board on PPIB’s budget for the Financial Year 2024-25, which was presented to the Audit & Finance Committee. He requested the member from the Finance Division (the Additional Secretary Finance and Convener of the Audit & Finance Committee) to share recommendations for the Board’s consideration.

The Finance Division member noted that the Audit & Finance Committee had thoroughly reviewed the budget for FY 2024-25 and made recommendations for the Board’s consideration.
