ISLAMABAD: The country’s electricity generation rose by 8% in August 2025, reaching 14,421 GWh compared to 12,752 GWh in the same month of 2024, according to data available with Newzshewz.
Hydel power generation grew by 3% year-on-year, reaching 5,517 GWh in August 2025 compared to 5,362 GWh in August 2024. This accounted for 38.80% of the total electricity generated during the month.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has requested a positive adjustment of Rs 0.1911 per unit under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism forAugust 2025. The proposed adjustment would enable the recovery of an additional Rs 2.6 billion from consumers across the country, including those served by K-Electric.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is scheduled to hold a public hearing on September 29, 2025, to examine CPPA-G’s request. The hearing will also provide an opportunity for consumer representatives to express their views on the proposed FCA adjustment.
Electricity generation from gas-based power plants was recorded 1.442 GWh (10.14 percent) at Rs 12.0146 per unit against 1,306 GWh in same month of 2024, showing an increase of Rs 10.4 per cent. Generation from imported coal was 1,138 GWh (8.01 per cent of total generation)
as compared to 681 GWh in August 2024, showing an increase of 67 per cent. The rate of imported -coal generation was Rs 14.0753 per unit.
Generation from RFO was 92 GWh against 6 GWh in August 2024, constituting an increase of 1433 per cent. However, generation from HSD was zero during the month.
Generation from RLNG was 2,180 GWh (15.33 percent of total generation) at Rs 21.7328 per unit (15.33 per cent of total generation) against 2,106 GWh in August 2024.
Electricity generation from nuclear sources was 2,145 GWh at Rs 2.0948 per unit (15.09 percent of total generation) compared with 2,190 GWh in August 2024.
Electricity imported from Iran was 17 GWh at Rs 41.0948 per unit in August 2025 as compared to 36 GWh at Rs 27.2457 per unit.
The data further shows that net delivered electricity was 13,715 GWh in August 2025 at a rate of Rs 7.5059 per unit against 12,752 GWh in August 2024, showing an increase of 7.55 per cent.
