Power generation increased by 7.3 percent in October on YoY basis

ISLAMABAD : The country’s power generation has shown a growth of 7.3 per cent to 10, 262 GWh in October 2024 from 9,572 GWh during the correspondent month of 2023.

 However, hydel generation increased to 3,187 GWh in October 2024 from 3,114 GWh, while generation on local coal stood at 1,518 GWh from 1,334 GWH, showing an increase of 34 per cent. Generation from imported coal reached 903 Gwh in October 2024 from 336 GWh, showing an increase of 169 per cent.

Generation from indigenous gas stood at 826 GWh from 704 GWh, showing an increase of 103 per cent. Likewise, generation from RLNG increased by over 3 per cent to 2,003 from 1,939 GWh. However, generation from nuclear declined by 21 per cent to 1,442 GWh in October 2024 from 1,826 GWh in October 2023.

 However, with proposed previous adjustment of Rs 1.091 billion and sale of electricity IPPs at (negative Rs 1.644 billion), net electricity delivered to Discos in October 2024 was 9.981 GWh in October 2024 from 9,253 GWh showing an increase of 7.88 per cent.

The government is concerned at continuous decline in electricity consumption in industry which is around over 10-12 per cent and announced a winter package to attract the industrial commercial and non-protected categories of domestic consumers.
