ISLAMABAD: K-Electric (KE) has sought the required amendments to the Power Purchase Agency Agreement (PPAA) and the Interconnection Agreement (ICA) for a guaranteed supply of 2,000 MW of electricity from the National Grid, well-informed sources told Newzshewz.
Sharing the details, sources said that the power utility company, in its letter of December 28, 2024, titled “Assured availability of additional 1,000 MW to KE,” and during the meeting of the Taskforce for the implementation of structural reforms in the power sector held on February 19, 2025, raised this issue.
The power utility company is of the view that in light of the discussions during the Task Force meeting held on November 28, 2024, for a firm guarantee of an additional 1,000 MW to KE (total 2,000 MW firm supply to KE from the National Grid), KE, through its letter, had shared a draft amendment of the ICA and the Power Purchase Agency Agreement for consideration and execution.
KE’s Chief Regulatory Affairs & Government Relations Officer, Imran Qureshi, in a letter to the Power Division, while citing previous correspondence between KE and the Power Division, has further stated that as discussed during the Taskforce meetings held on November 28, 2024, and February 19, 2025, KE shall pursue its 640 MW of renewable energy projects, for which the competitive bidding process has already been completed, and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (NEPRA’s) approval is awaited on the bid evaluation reports.
After explaining the background and directives of the Task Force, KE has requested the Power Division to initiate the process of approval of the required amendments to the PPAA and ICA for a firm supply of 2,000 MW of electricity to KE from the National Grid.
