ISLAMABAD: The country’s hydel generation has declined by 13.7 % to 1,534 GWh in December 2025 as compared to 1,778 GWh in December 2024. This was accounted for 18.07 % of total electricity generated during the month.
According to CPPA-G data overall electricity generation has recorded 8.8 % increase to 8,487 GWh in December verses 7,800 GWh in corresponding month of 2024.
CPPA-G has requested a positive adjustment of Rs 0.50 per unit under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for December 2025. The proposed adjustment would enable the Discos to recover Rs 4 billion from consumers across the country, including those served by K-Electric under FCA mechanism.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is scheduled to hold a public January 29, 2025, to examine CPPA-G’s request. The hearing will also provide an opportunity for consumer representatives to express their views on the proposed FCA adjustment.
Electricity generation from gas-based power plants was recorded 951 GWh, 11.20 percent of total generation at Rs 13.8030 per unit against 960 GWh in same month of 2024, showing a decline of 1 per cent. Generation from imported coal was 860 GWh (10.13 per cent of total generation) in December 2025, as compared to 120 GWh in December 2024, showing an increase of 594 %. The rate of imported -coal generation was Rs 14.3088 /kWh .
Electricity generation from local coal stood at 1,187 GWh( 13.99 per cent of total generation) at a rate of Rs 13.1286 kWh in December 2025 against 784 Gwh, showing an increase of 51 per cent. Generation from HSD and RFO was nil in December.
Generation from RLNG was 1,464 GWh (17.24 percent of total generation) at Rs 20.5457 per unit against 1,615 GWh in December 2024, showing a decline of 9 per cent.
Electricity generation from nuclear sources was 2,126 GWh at Rs 2.3009 per unit (25.05 percent of total generation) compared with 2,065 GWh in December 2024, posting an increase of 3 per cent.
Electricity imported from Iran was 33 GWh at Rs 21.9637 per unit in December 2025 as compared to 33 GWh unit in same month of 2024.
The data further shows that net delivered electricity was 8,208 GWh in December 2025 at a rate of Rs 9.6200 per unit against 9.6011 GWh in December 2024, showing an increase of 9.2 per cent. Ends
