Cabinet okays new GENCO Boards;  Drops Muhammad Siddiq from GEPCO Chairman role

ISLAMABAD : The federal cabinet has approved new boards of power Generation Companies (Gencos) along with directions to the Power Division to apprise the new Board members of their responsibilities and timely completion of privatisation process of entities, sources told Newzshewz.

  On April 9, 2025 , the  Cabinet Committee on State Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs) considered the summary submitted by the Power Division regarding “Reconstitution of Board of Directors of GENCOs Holding Company Limited (GHCL), Jamshoro Power Generation Company Limited (JPCL), Central Power Generation Company Limited (CPGCL), Northern Power Generation Company Limited (NPGCL), Lakhra Power Generation Company Limited (LPGCL), National Power Parks Management Company Limited (NPPMCL), Addition of Independent Directors in Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC),addition of Independent Director/Chairman in Gujranwala Electric Power

Company (GEPCO)” and approved the proposal of  the summary except the nomination of  Muhammad Siddiq as Independent Director / Chairman, GEPCO Board.

  The CCOSOEs also approved the nominations of  Shahid Raza (Independent Director) and Sajjad Ahmed (Independent Director) as Chairmen of GENCO Holding Company Limited (GHCL) and Central Power Generation Company Limited (CPDCL) respectively.

The CCoSOEs further directed that the Power Division, while making nominations to the Boards of entities, shall apprise the nominees of their role with regard to improving their governance and preparing these for privatization for timely completion of the whole process.

 On April 19, 2025, the Federal Cabinet ratified the minutes of CCoSOEs on a summary of Power Division through circulation instead of formal procedure due to time constraints.
