ISLAMABAD: Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko reportedly expressed concerns to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the exclusion of Belarusian companies from participating in the tender for the Thar-3 Coal Mining Project, sources told Newzshewz.

President Lukashenko visited Pakistan officially from November 25-27, 2024, during which both sides discussed a wide range of topics aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. In response to an invitation from President Lukashenko, Prime Minister Sharif also announced plans to visit Belarus in February 2025.

Sources indicated that during their meeting, President Lukashenko raised the issue of Belarusian companies not being included in the Thar-3 Coal Mining Project. In reply, Prime Minister Sharif assured that the matter would be reviewed. Furthermore, the two sides agreed that Pakistan would share information regarding the Thar-3 Coal Mining Project tender and other tenders, allowing for the participation of BelAZ, a Belarusian company.

The sources added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) to provide a response on this issue, prioritizing its transmission to the Belarusian side. Ends
