ISLAMABAD : Turkish firm, M/s Zorlu Wind Pakistan  is reportedly facing threats from land grabbers in interior Sindh, who are preparing to occupy the land of 56.4 MW Wind Power Project at  Jhampir, well informed sources in PPIB told NewzShewz.

In a letter to Secretary Energy Department, Government of Sindh, Managing Director, PPIB, Shah Jahan Mirza has informed  that  ZEPL was issued Letter of Intent (LoI) by AEDB (now PPIB) on  July 4, 2006 for the development of 56.4 MW wind power project at Jhimpir, Thatta, Sindh.

a Master Lease Deed (MLD) was entered into by PPIB and Government of Sindh, followed by a Site Sub-Lease Agreement (SSLA) executed between PPIB and ZEPL on  February 29, 2012 whereby PPIB sub-leased an area of 1148 acres of land to ZEPL for a term of 20 years for the development of wind power project in Jhimpir, Dlskict Thatta, Sindh.

ZEPL successfully achieved Financial Close (FC) for the project on  May 29, 2012, followed by the Commercial Operation Date (COD) on July 26, 2013. The project has been contributing electricity to the national grid for the past eleven  years.

ZEPL had approached the PPIB and informed about the intended land grabbing by the goons of the area.

”  It is very unfortunate to report this incident that a group of people has approached our site and threaten that they have bought the land and they will soon start the construction at the site. They have claimed that the project is restricted to the area of 100 meters within the area of the installation where wind turbines are installed and rest of the land is hereby considered as their property and being the legal owner, they will start construction activity,” said Syed Mumtaz Hasan, Country Manager, ZEPL, in a letter to Managing Director PPIB.

He has also shared land-lease documents with the PPIB, which has sent onward to Secretary Energy Board, Sindh for necessary support and action against the intended land grabbers.
