ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has directed the newly constituted National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC) to review key measures aimed at managing RLNG supply and addressing gas shortages, including a temporary suspension of new RLNG connections.
According to an official communication, the NCMC has been established under the Prime Minister’s Office, with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) tasked to provide secretariat support. The move is part of broader efforts to consolidate and streamline the work of the Power Task Force under a unified platform.
The council has been asked to present updates on several critical actions related to the provision of additional gas into the system at its next meeting. Among the key proposals under consideration is the temporary suspension of new RLNG connections until supply conditions stabilize.
The letter also calls for weekly progress updates on gas additions committed by major exploration and production companies, including Mari, OGDCL, PPL, MOL, and UEP. In addition, a monthly progress report is to be submitted on rationalizing timelines for processes within the Directorate of Petroleum Concessions.
The Petroleum Division has been tasked with ensuring the earliest possible allocation of gas offered by E&P companies to both SNGPL and SSGCL.
Further, SNGPL has been directed to rationalize domestic demand planning, taking into account factors such as hourly load shedding, reduction in unaccounted-for gas (UFG), and seasonal consumption patterns.
Both SNGPL and SSGCL have also been instructed to assess the financial impact of maintaining current gas prices while gradually replacing expensive RLNG with indigenous natural gas, in consultation with the Task Force and OGRA.
The Petroleum Division is scheduled to brief the NCMC Executive Committee on the progress of these measures at a meeting to be held at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The developments indicate a coordinated push by the government to manage gas supply more efficiently amid ongoing energy challenges and rising dependence on costly imported RLNG.
