ISLAMABAD: The country’s electricity generation posted a growth below 1% in September 2025, reaching 12,592 GWh compared to 12,487 GWh in the same month of 2024, according to data available with Newzshewz.

Hydel power generation declined by 1 % year-on-year, reaching 4,783 GWh in September 2025 compared to 4,838 GWh in September 2024. This accounted for 37.99 of the total electricity generated during the month.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has requested a negative adjustment of Rs 0.3681 per unit under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for September 2025. The proposed adjustment would enable the refund of Rs 4.5 billion to the consumers across the country, including those served by K-Electric.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is scheduled to hold a public hearing on October 29, 2025, to examine CPPA-G’s request. The hearing will also provide an opportunity for consumer representatives to express their views on the proposed FCA adjustment.

Electricity generation from gas-based power plants was recorded 941 GWh (7.47 percent) at Rs 13.4986 per unit against 988 GWh in same month of 2024, showing a reduction 4.75 per cent. Generation from imported coal was 1,019 GWh (8.10 per cent of total generation) as compared to 1149 GWh in September 2024, showing a decline of 4 per cent. The rate of imported -coal generation was Rs 13.7379 per unit.

Generation from RFO was 97 GWh against 39 GWh in September 2024, constituting an increase of 149 per cent. However, generation from HSD was zero during the month. Generation from RLNG was 1,815 GWh (14.41 percent of total generation) at Rs 21.1927 per unit (14.41 per cent of total generation) against 2,039 GWh in September 2024, showing a decline of 11 per cent.

Electricity generation from nuclear sources was 2,227 GWh at Rs 2.1893 per unit (17.69 percent of total generation) compared with 1,596 GWh in September 2024, posting an increase of 39.5 per cent.

Electricity imported from Iran was 24 GWh at Rs 23.8903 per unit in September 2025 as compared to 40 GWh at Rs 25.9519 per unit. The data further shows that net delivered electricity was 12,217 GWh in September 2025 at a rate of Rs 7.2873 per unit against 12,118 GWh in September 2024, showing an increase of just 0.82 per cent.
