write – off claims: NEPRA’s help sought to get consumers data from KE

ISLAMABAD: As the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is all set to rehear petition of K-Electric (KE) for additional write –off claims, one of the well versed consumers, Arif Bilwani has requested the Authority to ensure availability of consumers’ data for meaningful analysis and submission of comments on the petition. In a letter to Registrar, NEPRA, Arif Bilwani cited reference NEPRA’s notice of April 08, 2025, regarding the continuation of the hearing held on December 10, 2024 pertaining to the Write-Off Claims submitted by KE. As per the notice, a further hearing has been necessitated due to submission of Additional Write-Off Claims amounting to Rs. 8.131 billion by KE, which are in addition to the previously submitted claims of Rs. 67.902 billion bringing the total to Rs. 76.033 billion.In this regard, he has requested the Authority to treat his letter/email as an extension of his earlier submissions already available in the Authority’s records on this matter.Furthermore, he has requested NEPRA to immediately direct the petitioner (K-Electric) to furnish the following essential details required for proper evaluation of their claims and for the preparation of informed comments. He has also requested that the hearing be postponed until following details are made available Category-wise breakup (Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Others) for each of the 7 years — number of claims and the amount involved : Number of claims for each year and each category exceeding Rs. 10 million : Number of claims for each year and each category exceeding Rs. 5 million but less than Rs. 10 million : Number of claims for each year and each category exceeding Rs. 1 million but less than Rs. 5 million : Number of claims for each year and each category exceeding Rs. 0.5 million but less than Rs. 1 million : Number of claims for each year and each category exceeding Rs. 100,000 but less than Rs. 0.5 million : Number of claims for each year and each category below Rs. 100,000.In addition he has sought details of claims IBC-wise (Individual Business Center) following the same breakdown. Moreover, he has demanded year-wise recovery percentage data for domestic consumers, as per the following slabs: (i) 400 units ;(ii) 500 units ;(iii) 600 units; and (iv) 700 units and above. Also include details for 3-phase domestic consumers.The requested information is crucial for meaningful analysis and submission of comments. Registrar’s prompt attention to this matter will be highly appreciated,” he concluded
