ISLAMABAD :   Around 156 tankers filled with highly flammable, ‘Light Aliphatic Hydro Carbon liquid’   parked in National Logistic Cell (NLC)  Border Terminal Parking area Taftan are reportedly  posing a grave risk to Border Terminal and its surrounding population, sources in Petroleum Division told Newzshewz.

A similar situation is existed at NLC Dry Port Quetta, where 207 tankers carrying Light Aliphatic Hydro carbon are held up since Dec 2024 which  blockade is created due to cancellation of importers’ licences by Department of Explosives (DoE); Ministry of Energy, Petroleum Division .

The sources further stated that Petroleum Division has asked FBR / Customs to confiscate these consignments being illegal and auction these subsequently.

In response, FBR while referring to PD’s letter has quoted legal and operational issues wherein these consignments cannot be confiscated and auctioned.

”  Embroiled in this inter-ministerial correspondence, these consignments are stranded and posing a serious danger to both man and material and their timely disposal is mandatory for the safety of local population,”  the sources maintained.

On  April 3, 2025 at about 1600 hours, 1  civilian Light Aliphatic Hydro Carbon Tanker (parked since Dec 2024, inside Taftan Border Terminal), got leaked from outlet valves due to high temperature and built in gas pressure. Tender Fire Crash was moved in near area and extinguishing foam was spread to avoid accidental fire. Customs and  tanker importer were also called in for speedy disposal of leaked tanker. By ‘1700 hours, leakage was stopped, sand was spread over the affected area and tanker was moved to decanting station of  importer Inayat  Decanting Plant which is located 3 kms from Border Terminal.

According to sources, mechanism of swift disposal of stuck up tankers till now is undecided between FBR and Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), adding that delay in disposal of stuck up tankers may result in a disaster for which incident of April 3, 3035 be taken as a warning

The further stated that the concerned Authorities have   requested Petroleum Division and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for speedy disposal of stuck up tankers carrying highly inflammable Light Aliphatic hydrocarbon at Taftan Border Terminal and NLC Dry Port Quetta to mitigate any avoidable serious incident.

 Ends
