ISLAMABAD : Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO) has sought inclusion of its plant in Indicative Generation Energy Expansion Plan(IGECP) until 2028, aligning with the approved draft of Tripartite Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Well informed sources told Newzshewz that this proposal has been forwarded by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), KAPCO, Shahab Qader Khan in a letter to Chairman National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
Mr. Khan has referred to a letter of Power Division of February 14, 2025, regarding the inclusion of KAPCO in the National Grid. He has further informed the Power Company has submitted an Addendum to the tariff petition dated February 12, 2025.
In this regard, CEO has drawn attention to Clause 2.2(a) of the draft tripartite PPA, which has been reproduced as: “This Agreement shall continue in full force and effect until the end of the third Agreement Year .”
According CEO KAPCO, it is important to note that the IGCEP 2022- 2031, approved by the NEPRA Authority on February 1, 2023, determined that a minimum dispatch of 500 MW from the generation facility would be required until 2026. Furthermore, NTDC submitted the draft IGCEP 2024-2034 to the NEPRA Authority on April 30, 2024, retaining KAPCO in the system until FY 2027, as per System Operator requirements.
After explaining the background, CEO KAPCO has requested that NTDC be advised for KAPCO’s inclusion in IGCEP 2024-2034 until FY 2028, aligning with the approved draft tripartite PPA.
” This will enable us to secure the necessary regulatory approvals, including the Generation Licence and tariff from NEPRA, in accordance with the three-year term outlined in the draft PPA duly approved by the cabinet,” Mr. Khan added.
