ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a warning regarding the spread of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in the country and advised government departments to implement immediate precautionary measures.
Newzshewz has reliably learned that the Ministry of Interior has sent a letter to all federal ministries, provincial governments, and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), informing them of the global spread of HMPV and its potential risks, particularly through international travel. The letter emphasizes the need to implement precautionary measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. HMPV, a member of the Paramyxoviridae family, primarily causes respiratory illnesses and poses a higher risk to vulnerable populations.
To address this, the following preventive actions have been proposed for strict implementation across all public and workplace settings:
• Encourage the use of masks and social distancing.
• Promote regular hand hygiene through handwashing and the use of sanitizers.
• Conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public on symptoms and the importance of seeking timely medical attention.
• Ensure the regular cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces.
• Advocate for telehealth services to minimize unnecessary physical interactions in healthcare facilities.
The Ministry of Interior has shared this advisory with all ministries, divisions, and departments of the federal government, as well as with all provincial secretaries, urging them to take the necessary precautionary measures.
