ISLAMABAD: The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has urged the Punjab and Federal Capital Administrations to facilitate the transportation of petroleum products in order to avert a potential oil crisis.

In a letter addressed to the top officials, including the IGP and Chief Secretary of Punjab, as well as the IGP and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, OCAC highlighted the disruption in fuel supply across Punjab, particularly in the Lahore division, due to the closure of key highways and other routes.

“The situation has worsened significantly over the past two days, with highway closures severely delaying fuel transportation and posing a serious risk of stock depletion,” said the Secretary General of OCAC in his letter to the concerned authorities.

He further emphasized, “As you are aware, the Lahore division is a major hub for economic and commercial activity. The inability to replenish fuel supplies promptly is negatively affecting essential services, daily operations, and the livelihoods of millions in this region and its surrounding areas,” said Dr. Syed Nazir Abasa Zaidi, Secretary General of OCAC.

In light of the ongoing challenges, OCAC has urgently requested assistance to facilitate the movement of tankers in the region and to provide special convoys to ensure the safe and secure transport of these tankers from Machike to Lahore.

“We trust that you will address this matter promptly and take swift action to enable the smooth transportation of fuel tankers. These measures are critical to maintaining a continuous fuel supply, especially in the Lahore division, and to preventing shortages. Without immediate intervention, dry-outs are anticipated as early as today,” OCAC concluded, requesting support from the relevant authorities.
