ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has expressed satisfaction over the application of a 19% tariff on Pakistani exports to the United States, calling it a successful outcome of recent tariff-related discussions with U.S. authorities.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the agreement reflects a balanced and forward-looking approach by the U.S., aimed at keeping Pakistani exports competitive with those of other South and Southeast Asian nations.
“This development is expected to significantly support Pakistan’s export potential, particularly in key sectors such as textiles, which remain the backbone of the country’s export economy,” the statement said.
The Ministry, in coordination with relevant stakeholders, sees the tariff arrangement as an opportunity to expand Pakistan’s presence in the U.S. market. It has called on exporters and trade bodies to implement focused and aggressive marketing strategies to take full advantage of the development.
While textiles are expected to be a major beneficiary, the government also sees growth potential in other sectors. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting exporters through policy measures, trade facilitation, and market intelligence.
The government further expressed its intention to strengthen economic engagement with the United States in areas such as investment, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, mining, energy, and other emerging sectors.
“We look forward to continued collaboration with the U.S. administration to promote our shared goals of economic development and mutual prosperity,” the statement noted.
The Ministry of Finance also acknowledged the constructive engagement of U.S. counterparts and appreciated the contributions of the Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan’s Mission in Washington D.C., and stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
